2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove the Timing Cover on 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Remove the torque strut attaching bolts at the top before you remove the timing belt covers. On cars with a turbocharger, release and drain the air conditioning system and then remove the air conditioner lines that join at the upper timing belt cover. Next, get rid of the upper timing belt cover screws and remove the cover. For the lower front cover, you should disconnect the negative cable from the battery, hoist the vehicle and remove both the wheel and the right splash shield from their place. Turn off the engine, remove the accessory drive belts, the crankshaft damper and the lower torque strut. Remove the connection from between the exhaust system and the manifold and also between the A/C pressure switch and rear of the compressor. Raise the vehicle and use the jack to secure the engine, after which empty the A/C system and remove the connecting lines at the coupling block. Get rid of the upper torque strut and unwind the screw connecting the ground strap to the strut bracket, after that take off the torque strut bracket from the strut tower. Take off the radiator closure panel at the top and the power steering pump and bracket from the pump hoses, but do not unhook the hoses at this stage. Properly hold the engine once it is supported and then unbolt the right engine mount before jacking up the engine until its support bracket bolts are exposed. Unfasten the engine support bracket and the timing belt cover, then pull away that cover. On the rear cover, first pull out the timing belt covers and next remove the timing belt and the timing belt idler pulley. Hold the camshaft sprockets in place with Special Tool 6847 to allow you to remove their bolts and then unfasten and remove the back timing belt cover.
