Start by checking with the remove/install tool band strap that the filter can is not damaged at the base lock seam which is supported by the base plate. Trade the oil filter by first using a special wrench and turning it counterclockwise to loosen it. Take off the filter and then clean and inspect the part where it attaches to make sure it's clean, flat and without any leftover gasket or dust. Use oil to wet the gasket, wait for it to seat against the filter's base and then tighten the filter by hand with 21 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
