2003 Dodge Dakota Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Shaft for Proper Installation for Rear on 2003 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, put the vehicle into Neutral, lower the transmission lever and park the car over safety stands to fix or repair the rear propeller shaft. Put a line across the axle companion flange and propeller shaft flange yoke to know their location during installation and mark and outline the center bearing and heat shield on their brackets or supports if the aircraft has them. If your car has them, remove the center bearing and heat shield bolts and then the companion flange bolts. Remove the propeller shaft by taking the slip yoke off the transmission or transfer case output shaft. Slide the slip yoke onto the transmission or transfer case output shaft for the installation and then attach and tighten the center bearing and heat shield to the support bracket with 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.) of tightening. Put the companion flange reference mark in line with the flange yoke mark, install and hand-tighten the bolts and tighten again to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) before you drop the car.
