2004 Dodge Dakota Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Shaft for Front on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: The first thing to do when servicing the front propeller shaft is to use the parking brake, shift the transmission and transfer case into neutral, lift and secure the vehicle and remove the skid plate. Place a mark across each of the following places so you know where to install and align the vehicle: transfer case flange, C/V, propeller shaft flange yoke and front axle companion flange. After that, take out the bolts from the companion flange and transfer case flange to pull out the propeller shaft. For installation, arrange the propeller shaft with every reference mark, put the C/V and transfer case companion flange bolts in place and only tighten them to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). Secure the transfer case companion flange bolts to a tightness of 30.5 Nm (22.5 ft. lbs.), put on the skid plate if it is installed and check the repair driving on the road.
