2003 Dodge Durango Oil Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Remove and Install an Oil Filter on an Engine on 2003 Dodge Durango?
A: Engines come with an effective full flow, disposable oil filter and using a Mopar or likewise filter is recommended. Before removing the oil filter, put a drain pan beneath it, then twist the filter with an appropriate tool. Turn the filter in the opposite direction to oil filter boss to remove the filter from the cylinder block. If the filter comes apart during separation, tilt the gasket end up to decrease the risk of a mess and remove the filter from the vehicle, with the gasket attached to it. Take a wiping cloth and clean off any oil or dirt on the gasket sealing surface. During installation, put a bit of engine oil on the top of the oil filter gasket, then put the filter onto the adapter nipple and turn it carefully. Gently apply pressure until the gasket makes contact with the sealing area. Then, tighten the filter by hand once and not more. Now, lubricate the engine with oil, check that the crankcase has enough oil and begin the engine as you watch for leaks.
