2004 Dodge Durango Oil Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Remove and Install an Oil Filter on an Engine on 2004 Dodge Durango?
A: All engines come with a high-quality, disposable full-flow oil filter and it's best to use a Mopar or similar filter. Fit a drain pan underneath the filter, then use a suitable filter wrench to loosen it. Counterclockwise rotation of the oil filter detaches it from the cylinder block oil filter boss and at separation, tip the gasket end upward to prevent losing too much oil when you pull it out. Remove the gasket with the filter and make sure to clean the surface it was sealed to with a wiping cloth. Before anything else, lightly grease the filter gasket so it can be easily fitted onto your engine's adapter nipple. As the gasket meets the seal 1, rotate the filter 2 clockwise by hand, not more than one full turn. Next, pour oil and inspect that the oil in the crankcase is at the right mark before starting the engine to look for oil leaks.
