2003 Dodge Neon Exhaust Pipe Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Exhaust Pipe on 2003 Dodge Neon?
A: Before repairing or servicing the intermediate pipe of the exhaust system, place the vehicle on a hoist, apply penetrating oil to the fastener, avoid petroleum lubrication on parts made of rubber or similar materials and use a soapy water mix excluding petroleum. Start with taking off the muffler and then loosen the tie-down on the converter and joining pipe. Then, unbolt the intermediate pipe support isolator, divide at the slip joint and bring out the middle pipe section. Clean all the pipes and muffler ends and get rid of any broken, rusty or used up attaching parts. Tighten clamps only once every part is straight and any necessary clearances are met. Attach the catalytic converter to the intermediate pipe and add the isolator supports to the underside, followed by puts the muffler on the intermediate pipe and the isolator supports under the body. Center all system parts from the front end so they do not rub under the car and set all band clamp tightness to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Don't tighten band clamps too much, since doing so can stretch the clamps and make them less effective, meaning you will need to replace them. Replace the nut, pull back the ends of the clamp so the spot weld breaks and put on the new clamp with good orientation. The final step is to link the exhaust system ground strap.
