2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Brake Disc Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Brake Discs on Dual Rear Wheels on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: For brake rotor/disc service and repair on dual rear wheels, first jack up the car, then remove the tire and wheel from each wheel. After that, loosen and remove the disc brake caliper, making sure it is held securely so it doesn't damage the brake hose. Lift up the small level in the master cylinder brake reservoir with a suction gun and take out the brake hose banjo bolt, throwing out the old copper washers if you decide to replace the caliper. After that, take out the slide bolts for the caliper, then the entire caliper and finally the adapters bolts. When handling a vehicle with dual rear wheels, take out the axle shaft from the housing and the hub and rotor assembly if possible. To remove the caliper on the SRT-10, first use tool #C4212F to press in the caliper, unbolt the pin and banjo bolts and throw away the copper washer. To put the hub on the dual rear wheels, put it on the rotor, tighten the bolts to 128 Nm (95 ft. lbs.) and add the hub and rotor assembly, with the rear axle shaft and caliper adapter bolts at 197 Nm (145 ft. lbs.). Before tightening the banjo bolt to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.), fit the disc brake caliper and place new copper washers on the bolt. Put in the caliper pin bolts firmly and fasten them to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.), bleed the caliper base system, attach the wheel and tire together and set the vehicle down.
