How to Maintain an Oxygen Sensor on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500?

The engine needs to be cool before servicing the oxygen sensor, because the exhaust manifold, pipes and converter are extremely hot while operating. After getting the vehicle raised and stabilized, twist the connector off the O2S sensor so you don't pull on the wire that's attached to the sensor base. To remove the O2S sensor, use a special tool and then clean the threads in the exhaust pipe with an appropriate tap. Taking care of the threading is important, as the O2S sensor is already factory-coated with anti-seize compound which prevents further application. Attach the sensor and tighten it to 30 Nm (22 ft.lbs.); then reconnect the sensor's connector and drop the vehicle back down after the job was done.
