2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Starter Motor on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Begin by supervising the negative battery cable, afterward elevate and support the vehicle for access to the starter motor. If your car has 4WD and certain transmission units, lose the bolts that support the transmission from underneath and this will free up the lower starter mounting bolt. When using a manual transmission, remove one bolt and one nut; when using an automatic transmission, remove two bolts. Slide the starter motor forward until you can see that the starter pinion housing's nose passes through the housing, but do not let the starter motor hang from the wiring harness. Tilt the nose towards the ground, lower the starter motor and reach in to remove the nut that fastens the battery positive cable wire harness connector eyelet to the stud on the solenoid battery terminal, then take the connector eyelet off the stud. Take the battery positive cable wire harness connector off the solenoid terminal connector receptacle and after that, remove the starter motor. To install, join the solenoid wire to the starter motor, rest the battery cable against the solenoid stud and tighten the nut on the battery cable according to the correct torque mark, always ensuring the starter motor is not hanging from the wire harness. If you have an automatic transmission, place the starter motor on the transmission and fit the cooler tube bracket into place. For an automatic gearbox, tighten both bolts following the manufacturer's directions. For a manual transmission, use a single nut and a bolt. In the end, put the vehicle down and connect the negative cable to the battery.
