2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Fuel Level Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the Fuel Level Sensor and float assembly (fuel gauge sending unit) in the fuel pump module on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: The fuel gauge sending unit, fuel level sensor and float assembly all reside beside the fuel pump module in the fuel tank. You need to disconnect the fuel tank and next, remove the fuel pump to remove the unit. Remove the plug from the 4-way electrical connector and with the locking collar off, separate the two sending unit wires as well. Secure the sending unit to the pump module using a small lock tab and notch, then push the tab aside as you slowly remove it by sliding it down on the tracks. Pay attention to where the wire is routed. To install, set the sending unit into the tracks in the proper place, wire it up and push until you hear or feel the lock tab click into the notch. Join the two wires coming from the sending unit again, insert and lock the collar onto the connector and secure it to the module by means of the 4-way electrical connector. You should also reinstall the fuel pump module and the fuel tank at the end.
