2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Air Bag Parts and Q&A
- Q: How to Replace a Faulty or Damaged Air Bag on 2003 Dodge Ram 2500?A: Make sure to unhook the battery's negative cable, so the system capacitor can discharge for around two minutes before you start. Take off the two screws that hold the trim covers or speed control switches on either side of the driver air bag trim cover underneath the steering wheel. After that, take off the trim covers or speed control switches from the steering wheel to uncover the driver air bag screws. Lower the air bag as you loosen the two screws holding it to the steering wheel and then get rid of the air bag altogether to access the air bag's wiring at the back. Unplug the horn switch feed pigtail wire from the Clock Spring upper connector receptacle and do not pull on the wire or try to remove the insulator from the Clock Spring connector with force. Gently squeeze the edges of both latches on the Clock Spring driver air bag pigtail connector and while holding the pin still, pull the insulator out to remove it. Take the driver air bag off of the steering wheel. Once an air bag has gone off, its Clock Spring must be changed. When installing, bring the driver air bag near the steering wheel and reattach all four wires coming from the rear of the housing, actually clicking the driver air bag pigtail wire into place. Attach the horn switch feed pigtail wire connector back, make sure the driver air bag is not touching any wires in the steering wheel and screw the two holding brackets into the steering wheel armature, tightening them to 14 Nm (120 in. lbs.). guides the trim covers or speed control switches into the pockets located on each side of the driver air bag trim cover, then positions and tightens the screws, using only 2 Nm (15 in. lbs.) of torque. You should not reinstall the battery negative cable until the supplemental restraint system verification test is carried out after servicing any component of the supplemental restraint system.
