2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Locate, Remove, and Install a Camshaft Position Sensor on 2003 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: On this engine, the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) is positioned under the fuel injection pump and is bolted to the rear part of the timing gear cover. Before taking out the sensor, cut off the power harness, remove the mounting bolt and twist the sensor off, while noting the O-ring's condition. While installing, clear any debris from the hole in the timing gear cover and also add a very small drop of oil to the O-ring on the sensor. Press the sensor into the timing gear cover so that it rocks without twisting to prevent any damage to the O-ring. Make certain that the sensor is seated flush against the back of the timing chain cover before you tighten the mounting bolt on it to prevent damage to the sensor mounting tang. Next, set the mounting bolt and tighten it as per Torque Specifications and then reconnect the electrical connector to the sensor.
