2003 Dodge Sprinter 2500 A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How Is an A/C Hose for the Rear Refrigerant Lines Serviced on 2003 Dodge Sprinter 2500?
A: The rear refrigerant lines for the optional rear A/C are serviced in four sections and the liquid line uses a spring-lock refrigerant line coupler that needs a 3/8 inch quick-disconnect tool (found in the Special Tool, A/C Line Disconnect Kit 7193). To start, take out the refrigerant and disconnect the negative battery cable. Pull the interior trim piece out of the right quarter panel and separate the control lines from the refrigerant lines fitted in the sidewall. After removing the seals from the open liquid and suction line fittings, set plugs in the fittings or use tape to close them. Lift and hold the vehicle, disconnect the middle refrigerant lines from the rearmost refrigerant lines, again brush away the old seals and cover the openings with either tape or plugs. Remove the propeller shaft, take out the right inner seal and carefully remove both rear refrigerant lines from the sidewall. Remove the bolts at each retaining block on the underbody holding the rear refrigerant lines and get rid of the rear section of those lines. Hold the vehicle up, then fasten the rear section of the rear refrigerant lines. Seal them in firmly with bolts tightened to 5 N.m (45 in. lbs.). Send the rubber rear hoses into the wall nearest the right-hand door, push the seal into place within the door and secure the propeller shaft once again. Pull plugs or tape away from the open middle and rear refrigerant line fittings, coat each rubber O-ring with clean refrigerant oil and secure them to the intermediate-to-rear refrigerant line fittings. Attach the ends of the intermediate refrigerant lines to the rear lines and tighten the liquid line fitting to 16 N.m (142 in. lbs.). Tighten the suction line fitting to 30 N.m (22 ft. lbs.). Drop the vehicle, take off the tape or unplug the open sidewall and rear line fittings, add some clean oil to the new rubber O-ring seals and fit them onto those refrigerant line fittings. Plug the fittings on the rear refrigerant lines to their sidewall connections and tighten the liquid line fitting with a torque of 16 N.m and the suction line fitting with 30 N.m. At the end, mount the trim panel on the right quarter panel, restore the battery's negative cable, suck out the refrigerant gas and charge the system.
