2003 Dodge Stratus Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain an Air Bag System on 2003 Dodge Stratus?
A: Before you begin, you need to disconnect and isolate the battery negative remote cable, then allow the system reserve capacitor two minutes to discharge. Upend the headliner, come away from the wire harness connector at the bottom of the inflator and unfasten the bolt for the front tether on the instrument panel side of the A-pillar. After that, take out the five small retaining bolts on the edge of the roof and the four longer ones at the back roof line and C-pillar. All push fasteners should be taken off and thrown out before removing the air bag from the car. When deploying a curtain air bag and replacing it, examine the inflator pan, paying extra attention if the car has a sunroof since cracks may cause leaks. As for the headliner, you need to change it because the crease lines from deployment show that it isn't in the best condition. After installing the new curtain air bag, guarantee the bag is straight and put them both in the push fasteners. Attach the inflator with the two C-pillar bolts mentioned above, tightening them to 11 ± 1 N.m (97.36 ± 10 in. lbs.) and finally attach and tighten the fourth bolt beside each of the front and rear curtain air bag mounts to the same N.m (in. lbs.) level. Put the five short retaining bolts across the roof, with a torque of 6 ± 1 N.m (53.11 ± 10 in. lbs.); then install the short one for the tether at the A-pillar, so that the tether does not twist as you tighten it to 6 ± 1 N.m (53.11 ± 10 in. lbs.). Then, link the harness connector to the inflator at the back of the seat and put in place the Headliner, using a new headliner if the curtain air bags have ever deployed on either side of the vehicle. Put off attaching the battery negative cable until the air bag system has been thoroughly checked.
