2003 Dodge Stratus Clock Spring Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Clock Spring Assembly on 2003 Dodge Stratus?
A: Safe air bag service starts by isolating the negative remote battery cable, waiting two minutes and only handling air bag parts once the reserve capacitor is discharged. Lift out the steering wheel and pay close attention to route all the wires through the armature to keep them safe. Whent replacing the driver air bag, you should also install a new clock spring. After that, take out the multi-function switch. To take out the lock spring, gently push back the latches on the top lock housing while guiding the spring over the top. If the clock spring is broken, worn or hit the front air bags in an accident, you will have to change it out. For a good installation, make sure you do the clock spring centering procedure first. Set the top locking tab over the matching slot in the back of the lock and gently slide it down. Place the multi-function switch into the dash supports and make sure it's secure by turning it to a torque of about 2.5 Nm (22 in. lbs.) Card the wires through the hole in the steering wheel armature and return the steering wheel into its slot. Guide the speed control wires inside the hole in the steering wheel back, connect them to the switches and mount the switches. Attach the horn lead to the air bag mounting bracket, next connect the yellow leads (black and grey) to the Driver air bag while the secondary lock clicks into place and the wires are properly supported. It is important to never connect the battery's negative cable to the car until the air bag system has been diagnosed.
