2004 Dodge Stratus Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain an Air Bag in the Side Curtain on 2004 Dodge Stratus?
A: The Side Curtain air bag requires that you start by removing and isolating the battery negative remote cable and wait two minutes for the air bag reserve capacitor to drain, before you touch any air bag parts. Pull the headliner aside, disconnect the connector on the rear inflator and loosen the tether bolt on the front side of the instrument panel in the A-pillar. Then, release the five small retaining bolts from the roof line before pulling out the four larger retaining bolts to the back of the roof and C-pillar. Make sure all push fasteners are taken out and thrown away before you remove the curtain air bag from the vehicle. If you must replace your curtain air bag since it deployed, look in the inflator pan (horn trim above the C-pillar's quarter) for signs of cracks, because this is more likely if the car has a sunroof. Because the headliner creases, it should be replaced. During the installation, watch that the air bag is not twisted and use all the push fasteners. Place the inflator at the C-pillar, install and torque the two long retaining bolts there with 11 ± 1 Nm (97.36 ± 10 in. lbs.) of torque, then also torque the two long retaining bolts for the curtain air bag at 11 ± 1 Nm (97.36 ± 10 in. lbs.). Fix the five short retaining bolts along the roof line, using a torque of 6 ± 1 Nm (53.11 ± 10 in. lbs.) and install the short retaining bolt to the front tether on the A-pillar, not twisting the tether and torquing to 6 ± 1 Nm (53.11 ± 10 in. lbs.). Finally, join the wire harness to the back of the inflator and set in the new headliner if the air bags from either side of the roof have been triggered. Before you attach the negative battery cable again, verify and check the air bag system.
