How to Service the Rear Drive Shaft on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

First, place the vehicle on safety stands and support it in the air. Once that's done, shift the transmission and transfer case into neutral, if needed. Put a mark equidistantly across both the axle pinion yoke and the propeller shaft yoke to help with installing them. Remove the fasteners holding the universal joint clamps on the pinion yoke and pull the slip yoke from the transmission or transfer case output shaft to take out the propeller shaft. To install, place the slip yoke on the end of the transmission or transfer case shaft, making sure the installation marks on the propeller shaft and pinion yoke line up. Align the universal joint into the pinion yoke, mount the universal joint clamp and its bolts to the pinion yoke and tighten all these bolts to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.). Finish by lowering down the vehicle.
