2003 Jeep Liberty Belt Tensioner Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Belt Tensioner on 2003 Jeep Liberty?
A: First, take out the accessory drive belt and afterward, remove the tensioner assembly from the front of the engine cover. Because the spring on the automatic tensioner is very tight, it must not be disassembled, except for the pulley. Then, detach the pulley bolt and get rid of the pulley assembly from the tensioner. To attach the pulley, fasten it with the pulley bolt, making sure to tighten it to a measure of 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) torque. Slide the tensioner's indexing slot onto the bolt tip in the front cover, tighten the mounting bolt to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and secure the tensioner using the wavy metal spring clip. After that, put the drive belt back and make sure the indexing marks are lined up properly.
