2003 Jeep Liberty Water Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Water Pump on 2003 Jeep Liberty?
A: Prior to removing the pump, disconnect the negative wire from the battery, lift the accessory drive belts and remove them along with the belt tensioner next. Drain the system, then get rid of the generator, power steering pump, A/C compressor and the accessory drive bracket. After that, take out the timing belt and timing belt idler pulley. Fix the C-4687 adapter to your sprocket and tighten the special C-4687 bolt onto it; remove the bolt and use it to keep the sprocket in place as you remove the rear timing belt cover and the water pump same time. Lay a new O-ring gasket against the water pump body O-ring place, assuring it is correctly positioned to keep coolant inside the pump. Attach the pump body to the block and tighten all screws to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.), then use sufficient cooling fluid pressure of 103.4 Kpa (15 psi) to check the water pump shaft seal and O-ring for leaks. Move the pump manually to make certain it turns easily before putting on the timing belt rear cover. Replace the two camshaft sprockets and target ring, secure the bolts to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.) with the special tool holding the sprocket. Put on the timing belt idler pulley and tighten the mounting bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) and then place the timing belt. After this, restore the accessory drive mount bracket, power steering pump, generator, A/C compressor and belt tensioner and replace the drive belts. After that, fill the cooling system, set the vehicle on the ground and attach the battery cable.
