2004 Chrysler Crossfire Water Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Water Pump on 2004 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: For maintenance of the water pump, remove the negative battery cable and empty the cooling system before you begin. Uninstall the air cleaner, take out the radiator fan, remove the accessory drive belt and unbolt the belt tensioner. Remove the lower radiator hose (2), plus the coolant bypass hose (1) and then take out the water pump pulley (2) and the idler pulley (1). After that, take out the water pump retaining bolts and the water pump. Check the water pump for damage, cracks in the pump body, any buildup of dried coolant leaks from the weep hole, impeller rubbing against the engine front cover and loosened or worn bearing floods. If you notice a these symptoms coming from the weep hole, have the water pump replaced. Clear all gasket areas and mount the water pump with a fresh gasket on the timing chain cover, adding the water pump bolts and securing them by hand to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.). Reattach the belt tensioner, water pump pulley and all bolts (2) to a tightness of 10 Nm (89 in. lbs.), then use 10 Nm of force to tighten the idler pulley screw. Attach the lower radiator hose to the coolant bypass hose, after this, place the accessory drive belt, radiator fan and air cleaner. Link the negative battery cable, put fluid in your cooling system, operate the engine, check for leaks and double-check your coolant reservoir.
