2005 Dodge Dakota Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Shaft on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: Often, you should raise the vehicle at its axles and make the wheels level, so turning the wheels and the shaft will be possible. If your machine has universal joint snap rings, uninstall them to make sure the inclinometer base is level. Turn the shaft until the cap at the bottom of the transfer or transmission yoke bearing is facing down. Keep to one side of the vehicle and always measure from its front to its back. Put Inclinometer 7663 on the yoke bearing cap or pinion flange ring, alongside the shaft, so the bubble is centered in the sight glass; record this angle as the Output Yoke Angle. After that, rotate the propeller shaft 90 degrees and attach the inclinometer parallel to the yoke bearing cap, centered to the bubble, to record the angle of the shaft. The output operating angle of the transmission is obtained by taking the difference between the larger and smaller figures. After that, turn the propeller shaft 90 degrees the other way and place the inclinometer on the pinion yoke bearing cap aligned with the shaft, aimed to center the bubble and take note of where the indicator points to determine the angle of the input shaft or yoke. Take away the smaller figure from the larger one to find the axle Input Operating Angle. An acceptable U-joint cancellation has operating angles that are under 3 degrees and at least 1/2 of a degree of continuous running angle.
