2005 Dodge Dakota Release Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair a release bearing on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: It is necessary to pull out the transmission to service or repair the clutch release bearing. Then, take out the release bearing from the fork and remove the attached bearing. In case the slide surface on the transmission front bearing retainer is scored, worn away or cracked, you should replace the retainer. Examine the release fork and fork pivot to confirm that the pivot is in good shape and secure and that the fork looks the same. Should the release fork retainer spring look bent or damaged, it should be changed. Coat the inner area of the fork cap, the inner side of each cover, the retainers, fork and rear side of the turn signal cover with Mopar grease. Securely install the release fork and bearing and then position the transmission back after they are installed.
