2004 Dodge Durango Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Brake Booster on 2004 Dodge Durango?
A: Step one is to press the brake pedal five times to drain any extra vacuums from the brake booster, then remove any fluid in the reservoir. Lower the wiper arm and its cowl assembly and then remove the brake lamp switch. Then, remove the clip connecting the booster push rod to the brake pedal and take out the brake booster mounting nuts. Unhook the brake level electrical connector from the back of the master cylinder, cut the brake lines where they go to the master cylinder and remove the vacuum line at the booster. Loosen the studs on the power brake booster and lower it away from the master cylinder. Then, remove the booster and spacer block from the front cowl panel. Take any debris out of the hole where the brake booster cowl is mounted. Take off the old spacer if it was removed and then put it and the gaskets back in place. After that, guide the booster studs into the holes and seat the booster on the panel. Now, tighten the bolts by hand to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.), set the booster push rod on the brake pedal and attach the clip. Set up a new brake lamp alarm switch, unite the brake line and check valve using a vacuum hose and fit the master cylinder to the brake booster, using 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.) of tightening. Connect everything to the master cylinder again and tighten each connection to 19 Nm (170 in. lbs.). After that, add the wiper arm and cowl assembly and finish by filling and bleeding the brakes.
