2004 Dodge Durango Brake Pad Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair Brake Pads on 2004 Dodge Durango?
A: The process begins by lifting the vehicle, placing it on supports and removing both the wheels and the tire assemblies. Apply your compressor to squeeze the caliper and gently remove it tilting the caliper assembly off the mounting bracket, without the brake hose supporting it. Stand the caliper up in the vehicle and remove both the inboard and outboard brake shoes from the adapter with note that anti-rattle springs are not compatible with each other. After that, remove the top and bottom anti-rattle springs found in the caliper adapter. When installing, push the pistons into the caliper bore, clasping them between a C-clamp and an old brake shoe. Remove dirt and grime from the caliper mounting adapter and anti-rattle springs, next apply Mopar brake grease to the anti-rattle springs. Just remember that the anti-rattle springs are not swappable. After that, install the bottom and top anti-rattle springs and then slide in the inboard and outboard brake shoes into the adapter. Place the top of the caliper close to the rotor and lower through the adapter, press the caliper at the bottom to seat it. Reinstate the wheel and tire assemblies, lower the car and press the brakes many times to make sure each caliper engages the brake shoe and pad for a firm response. Fill the master cylinder to complete its fluid level.
