2004 Dodge Neon ABS Control Module Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an ABS Control Module in the Hydraulic Control Assembly on 2004 Dodge Neon?
A: Begin the Hydraulic Control Assembly service for Antilock Brakes by installing a brake pedal holder and pressing on the pedal for one inch, to disconnect the master cylinder. First, detach the battery's negative cable and place it aside, next disconnect the positive cable and lift out the battery from the tray, securing it using one nut. Detach the nut and bolt connecting the air cleaner box, unplug the wiring at the air inlet sensor and lift the box to get to the mounting bolts on the battery tray. Twist and remove the two bolts and two nuts holding the battery tray and disconnect the brake tubes from the master cylinder's two inlets, plugging the ports. Detach the 24-way connector from the Controller Antilock Brake attached to the Integrated Control Unit, remember to use labels on the brake lines so you cannot get confused between them. Disconnect each brake tube from the Hydraulic Control Unit and take out the Integrated Control Unit, by removing the three bolts holding it to its mounting bracket. To detach these two modules, unplug the pump/motor wire harness from the Controller Antilock Brake and undo the four bolts screwed into the Hydraulic Control Unit before removing the Controller Antilock Brake. Attach the Controller Antilock Brake to the Hydraulic Control Unit, place four bolts on its mounting surface and tighten them to 2 Nm. After that, reconnect the electrical wiring harness for the pump/motor. Put the Integrated Control Unit back into the car, use three bolts to secure it at 11 Nm and attach the four brake lines to the Hydraulic Control Unit ports, all at 17 Nm of tightness. Whether using elbow-shaped brake tubes or long-tube silicone brake tubes, secure the initial and secondary brake tubes from the master cylinder onto the Hydraulic Control Unit but leave them a little loose, after that link them to the master cylinder ports and close them to 17 Nm. Make sure the seal is inserted into the 24-way connector and then insert and lock the seal into the Controller Antilock Brake's socket. Place the battery tray back where it belongs, secure it with two bolts and two nuts torque to 15 Nm and follow with putting the air cleaner box in place. Place the battery into the vehicle, fasten the hold-down clamp bolt by hand and attach the positive and negative battery cables. The Integrated Control Unit may require that the Drbiii scan tool initialize it after you install it. Following this, bleed the base brakes and Abs hydraulic systems, bring the master cylinder to the correct level and do a road test to check that both systems function correctly.
