2004 Dodge Neon Speed Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Vehicle Speed Sensor on 2004 Dodge Neon?
A: For service, lift the vehicle on a hoist and then unplug the connector to the vehicle speed sensor. Before you remove the sensor, clean any dirt from around it to ensure the transaxle isn't contaminated as you take it off. After that, remove the bolt that holds the speed sensor in the transaxle and securely extract the sensor, ensuring that the sensor drive gear remains on it and not in the transaxle; if the drive gear came loose, attach it again to the sensor. When the speed sensor has been taken out, remove the accompanying speed sensor drive gear. First, put the pinion gear on the speed sensor and then use a new O-ring to install the sensor into the transaxle. Fix it into place with the bolt and set the torque to 7 Nm (60 inch lbs.), then attach the speed sensor connector. Once all steps are done, take the vehicle for a spin and check the speedometer while you drive.
