2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Exhaust Pipe Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Exhaust Pipe on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before touching the exhaust pipe, remember to raise and support the vehicle. Apply Mopar Rust Penetrant to all the bolts and nuts and wait for 5 minutes so it can work. After you disconnect the oxygen sensor(s), take out the nuts from the exhaust manifold to the exhaust pipe and then the clamp holding the exhaust pipe to the converter. Detach the catalytic converter from the front connection and take out the exhaust pipe. Check all clamps for rust, supports for damage and various parts for wear and throw away anything that looks broken. Fix your car using the original parts or their alternatives to ensure both alignment and that the exhaust makes acceptable noise levels. To place the exhaust pipes, grip the exhaust manifolds firmly and tighten the bolts with 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) pressure. Fit the end of the exhaust pipe onto the catalytic converter flange, place the exhaust clamp and tighten the clamp nuts so they reach 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) of torque. Attach the oxygen sensor connector(s), drop the vehicle down and operate the engine to see if there are leaks from the exhaust and if it is touching the body, making necessary adjustments to alignment.
