2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Hood Hinge Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Hood Hinge on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: The first step is to take out the cowl grille before changing the hood hinges. Use a grease pencil or its equivalent to trace the location for the hinge being serviced on the hood's inside wall at its hinge point. Remove support for the hood and take off the support cylinder from it. Take out the two nuts from the hood to hood hinge and the central bolt that fastens the front fender to the hood hinge. After that, take off the wheelhouse splash guard and remove the bolts holding the hood hinge to the rail on the fender. Slide the hood hinge to get access to the latch, then move the hood forward to take it off. Slide the new hood hinge onto the fender rail and move it back toward the rear until it is installed. Connect the hood hinge to the fender rail with bolts and then tighten them properly at 20 N.m (15 ft.lbs.). Align the hood markings, fit the two nuts loosely into the hood hinges, lift the hood and tighten the nuts again to 23 N.m (17 ft.lbs.). Install the support cylinder again, move the hood into place should you need to and lastly reinstall both the wheelhouse shield and grille.
