2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Rocker Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Rocker Arm Assembly on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Remove the negative battery cable ahead of servicing the rocker arm assembly to stop the starter from working by accident. Take off the cylinder head cover. To remove the rocker arm from cylinder # 4, turn the crankshaft so that cylinder # 1 is at the lowest rearward position of the intake cycle. Crankshaft cylinder # 1 should be turned to the BDC combustion stroke position. For these two cylinders, crank the engine until cylinder # 1 reaches its TDC exhaust stroke. Whether you are using cylinders # 2 or # 6, spin the crankshaft around so that cylinder # 1 is at TDC for ignition. With one of the special tools, press on top of the valve spring to move the rocker arm out of the way. Be sure the concave pockets of the rocker arms are above the lash adjusters while installing to protect against major harm. Before mounting, brush engine oil onto the rocker arms. During rocker arm installation on cylinder # 4, rotate your engine until cylinder # 1 advances to bottom dead center on the intake stroke. For cylinder # 1, turn the crankshaft to its bottom dead center combustion position. When working on cylinders # 3 and # 5, turn the crankshaft until cylinder # 1 is at TDC exhaust position. Rotate the crankshaft for cylinders # 2 and # 6 so that cylinder # 1 reaches TDC ignition stroke. With special tool 8516, depress the valve spring and insert the rocker arm onto the infrastructure. In the end, fix the cylinder head cover into place.
