2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Rocker Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rocker Arm Assembly on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before any service or repair, disconnect the battery negative cable so there's no risk of accidental starter movement. Next, remove the cover that is on the cylinder head. For rocker arm removal on cylinder No. 4, rotate the crankshaft so that cylinder No. 1 is down at its lowest point while the intake valve is open. For cylinder No. 1, turn the crankshaft until the point BDC combustion stroke is reached. Rotate the crankshaft until No. 1 cylinder reaches its exhaust TDC for cylinders No. 3 and No. 5. For cylinders No. 2 and No. 6, turn the crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 reaches TDC ignition stroke. Using the special tool 8516 Rocker Arm Remover, push down on the valve spring to take out the rocker arm. Remember to have the concave side of the rocker arm aligning with the lash adjusters to avoid major damage. Rub clean engine oil on the rocker arms before placing them on the valve train. Before installing the rocker arm, turn the crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 reaches BDC intake stroke. With cylinder No. 1, move the crankshaft around until the piston is at its lowest spot in the sequence of up-down movement. For cylinders No. 3 and No. 5, turn the crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 reaches its TDC exhaust position. For those two cylinders, turn the crankshaft until your arms become fully extended which is when cylinder No. 1 reaches TDC ignition stroke. Pushing down with tool 8516, put in the rocker arm over the valve spring and fit on the cylinder head cover.
