2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Oil Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Remove and Install an Oil Filter on an Engine on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: An oil change should include a top quality, onetime-use oil filter and Mopar or an equal filter is recommended. The first thing to do is set a drain pan below the oil filter. Use the suitable wrench on your filter, then turn it counterclockwise to take the filter out of the oil filter boss in the cylinder block. When the filter is loose, turn the gasket end of the filter upward to prevent oil leaks. As you remove it from your vehicle, make sure you also take out the filter gasket. Clear the surface that the gasket sits on from oil and grime with a wiping cloth. Lightly cover the gasket with engine oil, then put the filter in place on the adapter nipple. Once the gasket is in place on top of the sealing surface, slightly rotate the filter one full turn. Add oil, check the crankcase oil level and look for oil leaks after you begin the engine.
