How to Maintain and Fix a Steering Wheel on 2004 Dodge Ram 2500?

Before you work on the steering wheel, be sure to turn off and take out the driver's side air bag. Steer the wheel to one side and then remove part of the steering wheel bolt without taking it all out. Use tool CJ98-1 or one with similar features, setting it onto the bolt toward its top to aid in removing it. After you've removed and discarded the steering wheel bolt, unfasten the steering wheel and take it off. Never use the previous steering wheel bolt; always put a new bolt into place during installation. Add the steering wheel to the column and tighten its mounting bolt to the proper torque value; doing this helps the Clock Spring work correctly. Mount the new steering wheel bolt and tighten it to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) and then reattach the driver's side air bag.
