2004 Dodge Ram 3500 A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace an A/C Hose in an HVAC System for Discharge Hose on 2004 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: First, separate the negative battery cable from its connection and then direct the refrigerant out of the system. Cut loose the pressure transducer wire, remove the fitting nut at the condenser inlet and disconnect the discharge line from the condenser. Take off the O-ring seal from the discharge line fitting and fill the holes left with care tape or plugs. Take out the bolt securing the assembly to the A/C compressor and unplug the assembly from the compressor, tossing the O-ring seals off the fittings. Cover every opened refrigerant tube and the plug on the compressor with plugs or tape. After removing the secondary retaining clip from the spring-lock coupler, unhook the suction line from the accumulator outlet tube by using the proper A/C line disconnect tool and throwing out the O-ring seal. Tape or plug the opened suction line and the accumulator outlet tube fitting, then take out the suction/discharge line assembly from the engine section. If requested, take out the A/C pressure transducer from the hose going to the discharge line. When installing, if the A/C pressure transducer has been removed, fit a new O-ring seal between it and the discharge line and secure it tightly. Place the suction/discharge line assembly where the accumulator outlet tube will connect inside the engine compartment, remove anything covering the ends of each and apply clean refrigerant oil to a new O-ring before putting it in place on the accumulator outlet tube fitting. Link the loose end of the suction line to the accumulator outlet tube and then add the larger clip to the spring-lock coupler. Remove the plugs or tape from the suction, discharge and the two compressor ports, oil the new rubber O-rings and put them onto the suction and discharge line fittings. Move the attached suction/discharge line lift pipe assembly to the compressor and secure it using a bolt fastened to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs), remove the covers or plugs from the condenser inlet and the discharge line and connect the system line to the discharge side of the compressor. Coat a clean O-ring with refrigerant oil, place it over the discharge line fitting, attach the discharge line to the condenser inlet port and tighten the fitting nut to a torque of 20 Nm (180 in. lbs.). After that, join the wire harness to the A/C pressure transducer, hook up the battery negative wire again, evacuate the AC system and add refrigerant to it.
