2005 Dodge Stratus Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Service and Repair a Curtain Air Bag on 2005 Dodge Stratus?
A: Before you work on the curtain air bag, disconnect the negative remote cable from the battery, then give the system reserve capacitor two minutes to empty. Take out the headliner and pull the wire harness connector from the air bag inflator at the rear. Then, take out the retaining bolt for the front tether at the instrument panel and then use a wrench or tire iron to remove the bunch of short bolts along the roof and the set of four long bolts at the rear, one on the roof line and the other at the C-pillar. Remove all push fasteners from the vehicle and get rid of them before you pull the curtain air bag. Should the inflator pan show any cracks, replace the air bag because the cracks can result in leaks. Set up the new curtain air bag and be sure it is not twisted as you attach it using all push fasteners. Mount the two long bolts at the C-pillar on the inflator and torque them to 11 ± 1 N.m (97.36 ± 10 in.lbs.). Then attach the other two bolts for the curtain air bag with an equal torquing, as specified before. Secure five short retaining bolts along the roof line and tighten the tether bolt by the instrument panel on the A-pillar, all to 6 ± 1 N.m (53.11 ± 10 in.lbs.). After that, connect the wire harness connector to the rear of the inflator and install the headliner, substituting the piece that was installed if both curtain air bags went off. You should not connect the battery negative cable until the air bag system has been checked and tested or you risk a person being hurt or killed.
