2004 Dodge Stratus Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Clock Spring Assembly on 2004 Dodge Stratus?
A: Start by cutting and isolating the negative battery remote cable for the Air Bag and let the system reserve capacitor discharge for two minutes before working on any air bag boards. After removing the steering wheel, place all connections over the steering wheel armature so they don't get damaged. Any Driver air bag that has been deployed should be accompanied by a new clock spring during replacement. After that, detach the multi-function switch and tip the top lock housing latches up slightly so the clock spring will slide over the housing as you take it out. You need to change the clock spring if it is broken, too damaged or if the front air bags were used in the accident. First make sure the clock spring is in the middle, then place the top locking tab over the slot on the lock housing and gently push the entire unit in place. Secure the switch in place, place the wires above the steering wheel armature and set the steering wheel on correctly. Hardwire connections should not be made to the battery negative cable without first identifying and testing air bag problems.
