2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Cigarette Lighter Power Outlet on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before working on the front outlet, remove and separate the battery's negative cable. After removing the center lower bezel, take out the cigarette lighter knob and element from the receptacle base or use the release button to remove the protective cap from the cigarette lighter door within the bezel. Open the lighter or cigarette lighter receptacle base and notice the rectangular retaining bosses holding the receptacle base to the instrument panel center lower bezel. Use external snap ring pliers to catch the tips with the retaining bosses, squeeze the pliers to get them off the base and slowly rock and pull the base to remove the receptacle from the mount. Pop out the cigarette lighter from the center lower area of the dashboard. Continue with installation by aligning the splines outside the receptacle base connector on the lighter mount with the grooves inside the instrument panel center lower bezel. Pushing firmly ensures you have fitted all the retaining bosses correctly. Mount the cigarette lighter knob and element or protective cap again or just close the door on the cigarette lighter. After that, fit the center lower bezel on the instrument panel and reconnect the negative end of the battery cable.
