2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Oil Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How Can an Oil Filter Be Serviced to Prevent Oil Leaks and Engine Failure on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Beware that if you use an oil filter with metric threads, the system may leak oil and the engine might fail. Lay a drain pan near the filter for catching the oil and then use the proper wrench to unscrew the filter. Counterclockwise rotation of the oil filter will release it from the cylinder block or filter adapter housing. If the filter comes loose from the adapter nipple, tilt the gasket end of the filter upward slightly to keep oil from leaking and remove the old filter from the vehicle. When taking out the oil filter, bring out the old gasket, then wipe clean the surface of the gasket with a cloth. When you install, first grease the oil filter gasket with engine oil or chassis grease, then screw the filter on to the adapter nipple. When the gasket touches the surface, twist the filter one full turn before you release. Next, put oil in, check the crankcase, turn on the engine and check for signs of any oil leaks.
