2004 Jeep Liberty Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: Repairing or servicing the power steering pump requires closing the engine and checking fluid so you do not harm yourself with the pumps components. Try to always fill your steering system with Mopar Power Steering Fluid, not other kinds of fluid and avoid filling it too much. Wipe the filler cap clean and see if your fluid level indicates "Cold" at normal weather. Put the fluid into the reservoir until the level is correct, then let it sit for two minutes or more. Lift the front wheels, turn the steering wheel right and then left many times, touching the wheel stops 20 times or more. Check your reservoir to see if the fluid needs to be topped up. Lower the car, start the engine and gently rotate the steering wheel from one extreme to the other. Break and then check the amount of fluid in the engine. Add more fluid if levels drop. Do not run the car when there is foamy fluid for a long time to stop damage to the pump. In case the wetting fluid is exceedingly foamy or milky, have the car sit for several minutes and carry out the process once more, adding fluid as you go, until the fluid settles and doesn't change after the engine is restarted.
