2004 Jeep Liberty Release Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Release Bearing on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: The first step in servicing or repairing a clutch release bearing is to remove the transmission. Take off the release bearing from the release lever and take it out. Inspect the surface of the transmission front bearing retainer meant for the back bearing slide and change the retainer if the slide surface has become scored, worn or cracked. Look at the release fork and fork pivot, making sure the pivot is not damaged and the fork has kept its original form and swap out the release fork retainer spring if it has any damage. When fitting the crankshaft pilot bearing, put a few drops of Mopar high temperature bearing grease or an equivalent on a long flat-bladed screwdriver, slide it through the center hub and then grease the holder before inserting it from the disc side. Slide a light coating of grease onto the input shaft splines, bearing retainer slide, fork pivot and release fork pivot spot. Place the updated bearing on the release fork, secure it and then install the transmission properly again.
