2004 Jeep Wrangler Coil Springs Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on 2004 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before you can fix the front coil spring, raise and support the car and then remove the wheels and tires. Place the hydraulic jack under the axle to help the vehicle and remove the front shocks from their lower end. When the ABS module is present, take out the wire brackets at the axle first and afterward, remove the lower suspension arms from the frame. Open the clip on the axle bracket and remove the track bar. Take off the drag link from the right knuckle as well. Lift the axle as you lift up the trunk so that the spring is clear from the top mount and rotate the spring and gently push down on the axle to remove it. Remove the clip that holds the coil springs and get rid of the spring and its isolator and bumper if that's needed. Installation starts with placing the jounce bumper into the mount and then installing the spring isolator. Again, turn the rotating spring and place gentle pressure down on the axle while installing. Set the coil spring on the tube end, possibly rotating it as needed, attach the spring retainer clip and bolt and tighten the bolt to 21 Nm (16 ft. lbs.). Raise the axle until it sits in the upper mount's springs and then set the shock and ABS brackets at the axle if they have them. First, refit the track bar to the axle bracket, then mount the lower arms to the frame with their bolts and nuts left loose. Couple the drag link to the right side knuckle, take the hydraulic jack away from under the axle and set the wheel and tire assemblies in place. Remove the supports and slowly let the vehicle down as you tighten the nut on the lower front suspension arm to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) at its normal ride height.
