2004 Jeep Wrangler Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Exhaust Manifold on 2004 Jeep Wrangler?
A: First support the vehicle and take the exhaust pipe out from the exhaust manifold, then lower the vehicle again. Following that, disconnect the upstream oxygen sensor on the engine exhaust, remove the air cleaner bracket and unbolt the heat shield. Remove the bolts that link the manifold to the cylinder head and detach the exhaust manifold from there. Keep an eye out for any damage on the manifold. Get rid of the gasket if there is one and wipe clean all the parts on the manifold and cylinder head. With the use of a straight edge, make sure the manifold gasket is flat within 0.15 mm per 300 mm (0.006 inch per foot) length and check for any cracks; if these exist, replace the manifold. When installing, wipe the joints between the manifold and cylinder head, put on the exhaust manifold with a new gasket and bolt them together at around 20 Nm (175 inch lbs.). Snap the exhaust pipe into the exhaust manifold, tighten the screws to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.) and then fit the oxygen sensor before the heat shield and air cleaner bracket.
