2005 Chrysler 300 A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Expansion Valve on 2005 Chrysler 300?
A: Before servicing the A/C expansion valve, take out the refrigerant and unfasten the negative battery cable. Unscrew the bolt holding the refrigerant line mounting bracket to the left front shock tower and then remove the nut that secured the refrigerant line tapping block to the A/C expansion valve. To get to the A/C expansion valve, disconnect the wire harness from the A/C pressure transducer and the two refrigerant lines from the valve, placing the lines out of your path. Remove the dual plane seal from both lines, then cover the exposed openings with either a plug or tape. Remove the bolts on the A/C expansion valve and pull the whole valve unit out, together with the foam seal, throw out the dual plane seal from the evaporator tube fittings and use a suitable tool to cover any holes left behind. As you are putting the machine together, remove the covers or tape from the evaporator tube fittings as well as the expansion valve ports, coat a new dual plane seal with approved clean refrigerant oil and install it onto the evaporator tube fittings, selecting the suitable seal for the R-134a system and following the AC compressor instructions on oil use. Attach the A/C expansion valve to the evaporator tube tapping block and install two bolts, tightening them to 11 N.m. Next, remove any tape or plugs from the suction and liquid line fittings, lubricate a dual plane seal and put this seal around the fittings before connecting the suction and liquid lines to the expansion valve. Once the refrigerant line tapping block is fitted to the A/C expansion valve using the nut tightened to 23 N.m, put the bolt into place on the left front shock tower's refrigerant line mounting bracket, securing it with 11 N.m of torque. Then, insert the wire connections to the transducer and the battery, release any refrigerant in the system and recharge it.
