2005 Chrysler 300 Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Master Cylinder on 2005 Chrysler 300?
A: The vacuum in the power brake booster should be removed by pedaling the brake several times with the engine off, continuing until the pedal becomes stiff to press. Pull out the battery negative lead and remove the panel above the engine to uncover the brake master cylinder. Wash the brake fluid reservoir and the brake master cylinder with Mopar(R) Brake Parts Cleaner. Remove the connection between the brake fluid level sensor's wires and the brake fluid reservoir and, if you have it, break the connection from the pressure switch. Take off the brake tubes from the brake master cylinder and fit plugs into each open brake tube outlet port. Carefully clean the brake master cylinder and the vacuum booster and, with the brake disconnected, take off both nuts connecting the brake master cylinder to the power brake booster and slide it out. Whenever you remove the brake master cylinder, replace the vacuum seal on its back side. In order to disassemble the system, leave the reservoir on the bike and empty it, make sure to leave the pressure switch in place and wipe up any dirt from inside the housing. Take out the screw joining the reservoir to the brake master cylinder, move the reservoir side to side to make it come free and remove the grommets from the openings. When you assemble, set fresh sealing grommets in the brake master cylinder, add fresh brake fluid to the mounting area and fix the reservoir onto the grommets. Tighten down the reservoir mounting screw and, if a pressure switch is fitted, tighten it to 28 Nm, the same as the previous bolts. Bleed the brake master cylinder well before positioning it and add a new vacuum seal on the back. Align the push rod from the booster on the brake master cylinder's piston, place it where the assembly and manifold are mounted and then tighten the nuts to 25 Nm torque. Push the hoses for both brakes into the brake master cylinder and tighten the nuts on the hoses to 14 Nm. Plug the wiring harnesses into the pressure and brake fluid level switch, attach the battery's negative cable, fill the reservoir with Mopar(R) Brake Fluid and attach the access panel. The brakes should engage firmly before you drive; if they don't, try bleeding the system and look for leaks. Once everything else is checked, test the vehicle on the road to ensure the brakes are working well.
