2005 Chrysler 300 Parking Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install Parking Brake Shoes on 2005 Chrysler 300?
A: Elevate and support your vehicle, remove the rear hub and bearing to take out the parking brake shoes. Take your foot off of the parking brake shoe adjustment (8), remove the spring that connects it (3) and also remove the full adjustment (8). Then, get rid of the upper hold-down clip and pin (7) and take off the upper shoe (6) from its spot on the return spring (4) and shoe actuator lever (1). Get rid of the return spring (4) inside the lower shoe (6) and take the shoe actuator lever (1) off the cable's end (2). Remove the lower brake shoe pin and the clip previously mentioned (7) before taking out the lower shoe (6). Check the springs, rod adjuster, lever and anchor pin on the aluminum shoe for any damage; if there is, replace them. Before mounting anything, make sure the springs, adjuster, lever and aluminum anchor pin are in proper working order. Fasten the hold-down pin, part 7, into the back edge of the support and place the lower shoe against the plate (2). Fasten it with the lower brake shoe hold-down clip (7). Connect the shoe actuator lever (1) to the parking brake cable (2) so that the UP marked side of the lever is outside. Mount the return spring (4) under the lower shoe (6), put the upper shoe (6) against the support plate and place it over the shoe actuator lever. First, put the rear of the upper brake shoe into the support with the upper brake shoe hold-down pin (7) inserted through it, then snap on the upper brake shoe hold-down clip (7). Attach the return spring to the upper shoe and install the shoe adjuster so that the star wheel is visible from above. Installed the parking brake shoe spring between the shoe and pad (3). Using Brake Shoe Gauge or its alternative, Special Tool C-3919, measure the diameter inside the parking brake drum section of the rotor and set the gauge. Put the gauge on the parking brake shoes at their widest point and turn the adjusting star until the linings are just touching the tabs in the gauge for the first adjustment. Place the hub and bearing on the wheel speed sensor, plus any other necessary parts, finish the assembly, lower the vehicle and adjust the parking brake shoe placement.
