2005 Chrysler 300 Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Parking Brake Cable on 2005 Chrysler 300?
A: To service the brake cable at the rear, you must first raise up and support the vehicle. There is no need to lock the parking brake lever because there isn't much movement in the system. Remove cable 3 from equalizer 4 above rear crossmember 5 for the left rear parking brake cable. Cut off cable 6 from connector 1 on top of rear crossmember 5 for the right rear cable. Open the wheel cover to remove the service side parking brake shoes. Then, lift off shoe actuator lever 1 from the end of cable 2 after that motion. Get screw 2 out of the lower arm and remove cable 1 from knuckle 3. Connect a 14 mm 12-point deep well socket 3 onto cable strand 1 at the end of the cable, then use it to depress the crossmember retainer by wiggling the socket. Once the retainer fingers are down, reach in to take out cable 2 and remove the cable from the bracket. While putting on the kit, push through the cable into the suspension at the front and attach the end to the crossmember bracket near the disc brake. Afterward, press the cable guide onto the bracket so it is locked firmly in position. Place the opposite end of cable 1 through rear knuckle 3 and attach mounting screw 2, fixing it with 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.) torque. Attach actuator lever 1 to parking brake cable 2, so the UP word is facing out and then reassemble the parking brake shoes. In fact, you should not force the parking brake lever to the locked position. The left rear cable (cable 3) is connected at equalizer 4 fastened above the rear crossmember (5) and the right rear cable is attached at connector 1 above the rear crossmember. Park the vehicle with the rear wheels a couple of inches off the floor, hit the parking brake, let go and reapply. Make sure that the rear wheels stay in place when the lever is applied, lower the car and correct the shoes in the parking brake as needed.
