2005 Chrysler 300 Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Oil Pan on 2005 Chrysler 300?
A: First, loosen the negative battery cable in the trunk and remove the oil indicator before starting oil pan service or repair. Place the car up on a hoist and then remove the retaining bolts and take off the lower splash shield. Take out the engine oil and let go of the old oil filter. After that, remove the bolt from the steering coupler, untie the coupler from the rack, separate the power steering pressure switch connector and unbolt the steering rack. Release the power steering line support from the frame and slide the rack over so it's out of the way. Disconnect the structural collar, unbolt the generator mounting bracket from the oil pan and the A/C compressor bracket as well, along with the lower timing chain cover, all four of which will be connected with the same four oil pan bolts. Unbolt the pan from the bottom of the engine and then lift it out with the gasket. While you install it, clean the oil pan and smooth all sealing surfaces, inspect the gaskets on the timing chain cover and replace any worn ones. Apply a thin layer of Mopar(R) Engine RTV GEN II around all front and rear joints on the oil pan gasket that meet with the transmission. Install the oil pan gasket to the block, next install the oil pan and fasteners, beginning by hand tightening the oil pan bolts and nuts, installing the lower timing chain cover bolts to 12 Nm, tightening the oil pan bolts to 28 Nm and finishing by tightening the oil pan nuts to 12 Nm. Secure the A/C compressor to the oil pan with the lower bolt, tighten the bolt to 28 Nm and do the same for the lower bolt attaching the alternator bracket. After the oil filter and drain plug are installed, put on the structural collar. Fasten the steering gear at the required position using 70 Nm of torque. Put in a brand new bolt to secure the lower pinch bolt of the steering coupling, then tighten it to 30 Nm. After that, plug the electrical connector into the steering gear. Set up the power steering line support, tighten it and then add the lower splash shield and its bolts. Bring the vehicle a short way down, install the oil level indicator, fill the engine crankcase with the proper oil to the correct mark, reconnect the negative battery, turn on the engine and check for any leaks.
