2005 Chrysler 300 Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Perform the Initial Operation of a Power Steering Pump on 2005 Chrysler 300?
A: Ensure the engine is stopped and the fluid level is checked before performing the first operation, as you could be hurt by quickly moving elements. Add only Mopar (R) Atf+4 to the power steering fluid because other fluids could hurt the pump and the entire system; keep the reservoir from being overfilled. Wipe off your filler cap and confirm from the dipstick that the level is Cold when it is typically normal and you are ready to drive. Turn the steering wheel left all the way, fill the pump fluid reservoir and then let it settle for two minutes. With the engine off, raise the front wheels, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock 20 times and check the fluid level; for vehicles with long return lines or oil coolers, do the same, turning the wheel 40 times. Turn the engine on and watch the fluid during its first idling. Position the front tires on the ground, set the engine to idle and turn the steering wheel in each direction for two minutes to ensure the power assist and quietness in the pump. If the liquid is very foamy or milky, leave the vehicle upright for a little while and try the test again. Running with foamy coolant for a long time can damage the pump furnace, so try to clean it up quickly.
