With the engine off, raise the front wheels, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock 20 times and check the fluid level; for vehicles with long return lines or oil coolers, do the same, turning the wheel 40 times. Turn the engine on and watch the fluid during its first idling. Position the front tires on the ground, set the engine to idle and turn the steering wheel in each direction for two minutes to ensure the power assist and quietness in the pump. If the liquid is very foamy or milky, leave the vehicle upright for a little while and try the test again.
