2005 Chrysler 300 Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Tie Rod End on 2005 Chrysler 300?
A: Before servicing the inner tie rod, take out the outer tie rod and the tie rod jam nut on the inner side. In some cases, you have to take out the heat shield on top of the inner tie rod bellows for better access if your car is equipped with All-Wheel-Drive. After that, loosen and remove the clamp on the inner tie rod and the one on the steering gear body, before taking off the bellows. fitted connect the inner tie rod removal tool to the tie rod's inner hex. If removing the inner tie rod requires something other than the proper tools, refrain from using a hammer or heat, since you might have to change the entire steering gear due to damage. Loosen and take out the travel restrictor and the inner tie rod from the rack gear. The travel restrictor should be installed so the beveled side points outward to prevent an incorrect installation. Set the travel restrictor on the rack gear and move it until it is even with the end. At the inboard end threads of the inner tie rod, use Mopar Lock & Seal Adhesive or a suitable thread locker adhesive and the secure the inner tie rod onto the gear with a proper installer tool or crows foot wrench, applying 115 Nm (85 ft lbs) of torque. Put a new clamp loosely on top of the bigger bellows, set the new bellows with its clamp onto the inner tie rod end and into the gear and pass the little side of the bellows past the groove in the inner tie rod. Rub a bit of Mopar Lubricate or an equal substitute into the groove on the inner tie rod shaft so you can freely make toe adjustments. Extend the small end of the bellows out until the ridge inside fits into the groove and snap a new clamp over it. Place the crimping pliers on the gear and squeeze them at the bellows. If your vehicle has All-Wheel-Drive and the heat shield is gone, place it above the tie rod bellows and tighten the screws to 10 Nm (89 in lbs). Almost finished: thread the jam nut on the inner tie rod so that you can put in the outer tie rod and then set the outer tie rod in place.
