Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Return Hose on 2005 Chrysler 300?
A: Do this by disconnecting the battery negative cable from the battery post first and afterward siphon power steering fluid from the pump that can be found in the reservoir. Take out the cover of the air cleaner as well as the hose to the throttle body and both clamps and the hose to the reservoir. After that, take off the upper radiator closure panels and disconnect the return hose at the cooler end. Take the return hose off the routing clip on the crossmember that holds the headlamp, pull it all the way into the engine bay and take it out of the vehicle. For all-wheel drive vehicles, cut the battery, remove the belly pan, raise the vehicle, support it and take the return hose and hose clamp out of the cooler. Unfasten the return hose from the return hose routing clip under the module, take off the return hose tube nut fastened to the steering gear and remove the screws holding the routing clamps at the right side of the engine cradle before you remove the return hose from the vehicle. With the rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup, proceed as before, remove the hose clamp from the cooler, remove the rubber clamps securing the pressure and return hoses to the right side of the engine cradle near the radiator, take the return hose tube off the steering gear and finally remove the return hose from its routing clip on the radiator. First, start with the cooler to reservoir by bringing the cooler side of the return hose down from the engine bay to the bottom of the headlamp mounting crossmember, inserting the hose into the routing clip, sliding it on the cooler and fastening it with a clamp. Slide the return hose onto the reservoir and secure it using a clamp. After that, put back the upper radiator panels, air cleaner housing, inlet tube and battery negative cable, refill the pump reservoir with oil and do the pump operation procedure. Begin by bringing the cooler end of the return hose over the stabilizer bar, then add a thin coat of transmission fluid to a new O-ring at the steering gear end of the return hose. After that, position the gear end of the return hose in the return port on the steering gear, slide it on without fastening it, attach the routing clamps to the right side of the engine cradle, tighten the return hose tube nut to around 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) torque, route the cooler end until it is under the head When installing the return hose for RWD, route the returning end over the steering gear, put lubricant on the new O-ring, lift the return end up to the return port, place the return hose without tightening the nut, run it along the right cradle side and position the pressure hose routing clamp over the return hose routing clamp. Next, tighten the return tube nut to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.), direct the returning end under the headlamp crossmember, fasten the routing clip on the cooling module, slide the return hose onto the cooler end, install the belly pan, lower the vehicle, reconnect the battery negative cable, fill the pump reservoir with fluid, and perform the pump initial operation procedure.
